Mr. Lasky has been an intellectual property attorney for over 40 years, practicing in all areas of IP. He has drafted or prosecuted over 2000 US and foreign patent and trademark applications, including many design patents.
Mr. Lasky started his career in Europe , clerking for an European law firm and then joining Merchant and Gould IP law firm where he was a was a partner for 15 years. He then founded Altera Law Group in 1999. In Minneapolis and Atlanta, until he joined HSML in 2019. Mr. Lasky’s experience in IP is unusually broad. He is both an attorney and a tireless educator in patent, trademark and copyright law with considerable experience in IP licensing and contracts. He has been a regular IP lecturer at Emory University, Georgia Tech, and McGill University in Montreal. He is the author of several books including The Good Brand, How companies become valuable and salable through brands, published in 2016 and teaches companies how to create brands under his Brand Boot Camp and Design Boot Camp programs. He is a regular lecturer on IP topics including, as a guest speaker at the Technology Leadership Institute of the University of Minnesota, on the topic of Disruptive Engineering – How companies can own the future. He has also been a regular speaker before the International Trademark Law Association, European Trademark Owners Association; the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA); The Trademark Institute of Sweden; The Canadian I.P. Association; and International Licensing Executive Society(LES). He is also an author of one of the "Dummies" series of books from John Wiley Publishers, Inc. He is admitted to the courts of Minnesota, Georgia and various Federal courts and is licensed to practice before the United States Patent Office and the Canadian Patent Office.
